About My Blog

Why Random Storyteller? I leaped into blogging as a way to explore writing in a niche-free zone. That is, I wanted to play with words after years of pounding out content for employers and freelance clients (which I still do 9-to-5).

Since then, I’ve dabbled in poetry, creative nonfiction, and short reflections. My renewed interest in prosody spawned the posts found here. Poetry is an exacting discipline—learned by revising relentlessly and reading the works of others.

Life happens, and I had neither the time nor savings to plunk down cash for an MFA in creative writing. You’ll find more than 250 programs in the U.S., according to the Poets & Writers database, so good luck if you’ve got the resources. Left to find my own voice, I took heart from tomes like A Million MFAs Are Not Enough by Charles Harper Webb, who offers concrete tips for working writers.
